Creative Futures Collective X SOHO House

Creative Futures Collective X SOHO House

The CFC x SOHO House Mentorship Partnership was a 16-week program where 25 hand-picked, up-and-coming creatives were selected to be paired and mentored with established professionals in the design industry. At the end of the program, a mentee showcase was held to celebrate the mentees and mentors and highlight their creative pursuits.
I collaborated on a project with a fellow mentee. With my background and passion for clothing, and Caed's experience in the film production, we wanted to create a project that showcased my design process—trying something I had never done before, sewing—and highlighted his skills in film directing through a compelling short video.
I took on the role of Project Manager for the project. With a hard deadline, staying on schedule was crucial to its success. I utilized Miro to share the project agenda with the team, where they could view and add their input. We included specific sections that were necessary, such as project briefs, individual to-do assignments, mood boards, concept sketches, and the shot list.
From there, I worked cross-functionally with Caed on film direction and Ryan, my design advisor, to ensure we had a cohesive collection that also aligned with the film production's schedule and overall motif. One of the challenges we encountered was the timeline for submission being reduced by a week. On my end, this meant I had to find a way to condense a week’s worth of designing and sewing and redistribute it within the limited time we had.

About the ‘Heritage’Collection

Since this was my first time sewing a collection, I wanted to keep it manageable while still ensuring each piece represented both of our upbringings.

Our theme reflects the contrast in our backgrounds—me growing up in the Philippines and Ryan in a small country town. We aimed to capture these influences through our material choices and garment designs.

For my top, I created a simple reversible jacket featuring a back floral graphic of the Sampaguita, the national flower of the Philippines, with my brand name above it. The pants are straight-legged and made from burlap, a fabric commonly used for rice bags in the Philippines, representing its cultural and culinary significance. To tie it all together, I incorporated pearls throughout the pants and jacket pockets, referencing the Philippines' nickname, Perlas ng Silanganan (“Pearl of the Orient Seas”).

For Ryan’s outfit, we wanted to highlight his hometown, Canby, Oregon. One of his fondest childhood memories is attending local rodeos every summer, inspiring the cowboy-style jacket and pants. The jacket features a graphic of a cowboy on horseback, with our brand name in a lasso-style font and “The Sticks,” his town’s nickname, as a tribute. To complement the brushed brown jacket, I made cream-colored canvas pants, adding bandana fabric along the side seams and pocket facings for a Western touch.
