NIKE UNITED
Black Employee Network & Friends
The NIKE UNITED initiative was a design management simulation challenge that lasted 6 weeks during our design management class. Our team was tasked with designing and planning a 1-day pop-up event on campus that represented and welcomed one of Nike’s networks for black employees and friends. Our objective was to craft a compelling narrative with a cohesive theme and an extensive event management plan, all while staying within the $50,000 budget. Subsequently, we presented our plan to a Nike representative.
In my role as vendor manager, my primary task was to contact vendors who would be present during the event, including food companies, event spaces, non-profit organizations, and security firms. Additionally, I assumed the role of co-brand manager, taking the lead in creating the prototype of the physical space for the pop-up experience and selecting a location that would meet our event needs.
We established partnerships with OSU’s Lonnie B. Harris Black Cultural Center to engage with the African-American community in campus. Additionally, we collaborated with Dixon Recreation for sports equipment rentals and access to their field facilities. The collection we chose to promote was Nike’s Future Movement: Black-Well being, aligning perfectly with our theme. Finally, we reached out to local security services for feasibility and partnered with local food vendors such as Laughing Planet to provide healthy food options.
In conclusion, the total cost of the event totaled to $46,650.39 which was under the allocated budget of $50,000.
The color palette we selected features vibrant tones including volt, clay yellow, mint blue, navy blue, and red orange. Each of these colors was chosen to align with Nike’s branding while also creating a bold and lively atmosphere for our pop-up experience.
The first floor was dedicated to our curated collection, where visitors could browse and purchase items from our Black Well-Being collection. Additionally, we designed a second floor, known as the sky deck, where people could enjoy panoramic views of the beautiful campus, socialize, and network with each other.
